We have our 2006 Tiles for America contest winner! Heather Ware from Pleasant Hill.
The judges felt her tile showed the best connection between our county and NYC.
Way to go Heather! She received a $50 Art-Gecko gift certificate. 2nd place
went to Jesse Thompson of Lafayette and 3rd place to Lynn Williams of El Sobrante.
All 3 received a certificate from the Major of Pleasant Hill at the September

Background
Art-Gecko Creative Studio participated in a Nation-wide effort to refurbish the TILES FOR AMERICA memorial, which celebrates the human spirit. We submitted several tiles for this memorial located in New York City.
The first two tiles helped to meet the goal of having each victim of 9/11 represented on the memorial. We requested the names of victims from the Bay Area - these are the names that Art-Gecko staff put on 2 6x6 tiles:
visa for russia Thomas E Burnett Jr, San Ramon
Alan Beaven, Oakland
Hilda Marcin, Danville
John Patrick Hart, Danville
Nicole Carol Miller, San Jose
Mark Bingham, San Francisco
Melissa Harrington-Hughes, San Francisco
Alicia Nicole Titus, San Francisco
Jeffery Collman, Novato
Lauren Grandcolas, San Rafael
Richard Guadagno, Eureka
Xavier Suarez, Chino Hills
The remaining tiles represented our county and state, Contra Costa County, CA and contained an uplifting message or artwork. All tiles submitted for the contest were sent to the memorial.
Tiles were donated by Dal-Tile in Martinez and Ceramics Unlimited.
